本文分析泰北地區幾處重要窯業遺跡的考古發掘。作者先後對當地出土窯址的窯爐結構，陶瓷器形以及窯具進行討論分析。就出土窯爐的結構而言，其面積比起泰國其他地區以及谷美爾之陶窯為小，其類型則包括了兩種基本樣式，即地上與地下之橫穴窯。就建材方面，出土窯址則呈現黏土磚以及石磚兩種。出土的施釉陶瓷當中，有釉下白底黑彩、釉下黑褐彩、多色釉、無色釉的白瓷、青釉以及褐釉等諸多種類。最後，作者對泰北地區出土十五世紀陶窯的編年問題以及歷史意義進行討論。

This article analyzes archaeological material from key kiln sites in upper Northern Thailand`s Lanna region. While major kiln sites such as Wiang Kalong, samkamphaeng and Phan have not yet yielded absolute dates for the chronological periodization of these kilns, carbon-14 retrieval from recent excavations at the Intakhin kiln site has dated this site to the 15th century.

The author first analyzes the above kiln sites in terms of their respective types, the typology of their wares, and kiln accessories. While the kilns of this region are smaller in size than the kilns of lower Northern Thailand and the Khmer kilns of Northeastern Thailand, they include two different types of cross-draft kiln, that in underground and aboveground kilns. Two categories of structural material, clay slab and brick, are accounted for. The glazed wares excavated from these sites feature under glaze black on white designs, under glaze black-brown designs, polychrome glazes, colorless glazes over a white ground, green glazes and brown glazes. Kiln accessories include tubular stands, discs and saggers.

In conclusion, the author discusses the chronological sequence and historical significance of these 15th century kilns. The Wiang Kalong site appears to be contemporaneous with the two kilns at the Inthakin site that are C-14 dated to 1420-1455. The majority of ceramic wares of the Lanna region seem to have been produced for local consumption, since none of these wares have yet been discovered along the junk-trade routes of Southeast Asia.
